Tottenham Hotspur beat Bournemouth 4-1 on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama had one of his better games of the season on Sunday as he played a key role in his side’s impressive 4-1 win over Premier League rivals Bournemouth.

The Spurs midfielder has come in for criticism at times over the past 18 months, but at the weekend he repaid the faith shown in him by boss Mauricio Pochettino with a dynamic display.

Dele Alli, Serge Aurier and South Korea international Son Heung-Min grabbed the goals for Tottenham as they came from one goal down, but as good as they were going forward, defensively they were just as impressive.

Bournemouth struggled to get back into it following Son’s second-half finish, and the visitors’ dominance was evident as both Mousa Dembele and Wanyama wrestled control in the middle of the park.

As demonstrated by the table provided by Opta Stats, former Celtic midfielder Wanyama contributed greatly in a number of key areas as he bossed Bournemouth duo Dan Gosling and Lewis Cook.

The Cherries’ midfield was simply overrun at times as Wanyama pressed well, recording an impressive six tackles, 11 duels won and a whopping 13 ball recoveries over the course of the 90 minutes.

The 26-year-old was also reliable in possession, completing 85.1% of his passes as Spurs ultimately utilized the space late on to punish the hosts with two goals in the final ten minutes.

Wanyama has been cited as one of the players who could leave the North London club this summer, but such performances should remind supporters of his quality and what he can offer the side when on form.
