Derby County’s Chris Martin has fallen out of favour at the club.

Derby County fans participating on an online Twitter poll have voted in favour of selling forward Chris Martin this summer following the player’s lack of first-team contributions for the club.
The 29-year-old striker joined the Rams from Norwich City in the summer of 2013, and for the subsequent three seasons he topped the club’s scoring charts with an impressive 54 goals in 134 appearances.
Aside from his goals, Martin was a nuisance for Championship defenders as his excellent ball control and passing ability allowed him to bring other attacking players in to the equation.

The likes of Tom Ince and Craig Bryson thrived from Martin’s link-up play, and it was only by misfortune or other factors that the Scotland international didn’t win promotion to the Premier League with the Rams.
Last season, Derby underwent a different direction under then-boss Nigel Pearson and Martin was rather surprisingly loaned out to Fulham for the season where he netted ten league goals.

Many supporters were keen for his return, but under current boss Gary Rowett, Martin has struggled to rediscover his top form and in January he was again moved out on a loan deal as he joined Reading.
Despite having a contract at the East Midlands club up until the summer of 2020, the former Norwich man isn’t expected to feature much under Rowett and supporters feel perhaps his time at the club is coming to an end.
As per the poll results, 83% of the Derby fans who participated voted in favour of selling him this summer.
Finding a club willing to take on his high wages no doubt causes a possible stumbling block, but Martin no doubt is a top Championship striker and getting the best out of him does lead to winning football at that level.
Derby, meanwhile, have Matej Vydra, David Nugent and Cameron Jerome on their books while Andreas Weimann could also play upfront meaning they are well covered in the striker department.
