72 touches; five chances created: Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen was unplayable in Stoke victory

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Stoke City 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur ace Christian Eriksen had his best game of the season as his side picked up their first Premier League away win of the campaign with a crushing 4-0 win over Stoke City.

Spurs headed into the game having won just one of their opening three matches, yet they quickly put their somewhat slow start behind them with a resounding victory over a struggling Stoke side.

Harry Kane scored his first goal of the season after an initial struggle, while fellow attacking player Son Heung-Min scored twice in what was arguably his greatest game in Tottenham colours.

The South Korea international will no doubt pick up the plaudits for his superb brace, yet it was his teammate Eriksen who really stood out with the Danish star unplayable at times.

As shown by the table provided by Opta, the former Ajax man contributed in a number of key areas and played a major role in at least two of Tottenham’s four goals.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, Eriksen posted an impressive two successful take-ons, three shots on goal and an unparalleled five chances created via key passes.

In possession he was looking to make things happen and was hugely dangerous in the final third, racking up a total of 72 touches and 44 accurate passes with a general pass-accuracy rate of 77%.

But it was not just Eriksen’s attacking play that was so impressive, he was also willing to track back and help out defensively by winning three defensive duels and five ball recoveries.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with his side’s efforts both individually and collectively, and now he will be looking for the likes of Eriksen to step up again in the upcoming Champions League tie.
