Sheffield Wednesday defeated Reading 3-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri produced a wonderful display in his side’s comfortable 3-0 win over Championship strugglers Reading at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday have started to pick up some form over the past five weeks, winning five of their last seven games- and it’s no great surprise that their upturn in results has coincided with Forestier’s return from injury.

The Argentine playmaker has missed the majority of the season after undergoing knee surgery last September, and his absence along with several other key players has seen the team struggle.

Tipped for another promotion-chasing campaign, instead Sheffield Wednesday are languishing in the bottom half of the Championship, and the lack of creativity in Forestieri’s absence has been there for all to see.

But now he’s back, Sheffield Wednesday can enjoy a strong end to the campaign under Dutch boss Jos Luhukay. The Owls were certainly worthy of their 3-0 win over Paul Clement’s side, with Foresteiri at the forefront of everything.

As shown by the above Opta table, the former Watford man was involved with everything good about the Yorkshire side’s display, as he tormented the Royals’ defence throughout the 90 minutes.

Aside from his two goals – the first being a deflected effort from the edge of the area and his second a well-drilled finish – Forestieri racked up five shots, four successful dribbles and three ball recoveries.

Only Barry Bannan took more touches than the 28-year-old, as Sheffield Wednesday looked to find him in the final third at every opportunity considering the quality he possesses on the ball.

It was an outrageously good performance from Forestieri, and one which will bring back plenty of positivity for supporters as they will look ahead to next season and the possibility of another promotion charge.
