Derby County’s Jayden Bogle has been terrific so far this season.

Derby County youngster Jayden Bogle could follow in the footsteps of Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick by gracing the Premier League in the not too distant future should he continue his superb form.

The Rams have a proud history of bringing youngsters through their academy system and into the first-team, with some of those since the turn of the millennium going to play at a higher level.

Players such as Chris Riggott and Tom Huddlestone went on to play in domestic and European finals, while Lee Grant (Manchester United), Hendrick (Burnley) and Hughes (Watford) all remain in the top flight.

Bogle, at just 18, has enjoyed a rapid rise to first-team action under new manager Frank Lampard after featuring only sporadically for the Rams’ U23 side last season.

The former Swindon Town youth has replaced Andre Wisdom as the club’s number one right-back to make five Championship appearances this term, with his latest display against Blackburn Rovers earning plenty of plaudits.

Bogle has an abundance of energy and has shown incredible composure on the ball, illustrated by his team-high 92 touches on Tuesday night (Whoscored) as he often became the Rams’ key attacking outlet.

Derby boss Lampard seems intent on fielding more youth this season and, having played with arguably one of England’s greatest full-backs Ashley Cole for much of his career, Bogle has the ideal coach to help him improve.

For Rams supporters, it is always special to see an academy player break through, yet a failure to secure promotion to the Premier League could leave the east Midlands club vulnerable to losing a potential prized asset.

Fans have seen it before with Huddlestone, Hendrick and Hughes leaving, while over the past couple of years leading scorers Tom Ince and Matej Vydra have also departed to the top flight to help cover costs.

Bogle has the potential to play at the very top, but Derby fans will be hoping he makes it there with the Pride Park club rather being the next to make way in order to help fund another summer of Championship spending.
