A 4-0 victory over Watford keeps Tottenham on track to achieve a Premier League first for the club, joining the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Tottenham’s Son Heung-min celebrates scoring their second goal
Tottenham Hotspur ensured the Premier League title race will at least continue to be interesting with a 4-0 victory over Watford, maintaining the pressure on Chelsea at the top.
It was Tottenham’s 16th league match at White Hart Lane in 2016/17 and 14th win, with the North Londoners having the best home record in the entire division. The other two matches were draws.
In fact, if Tottenham go unbeaten on their own turf for the entire season, then they will join a very short and exclusive list of teams who have managed to achieve the feat in Premier League history.
Only five other teams have done so since England’s top tier was rebranded in 1992 – Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United.
General View of White Hart Lane
And Tottenham would be the first to have done so since the Blues in 2014/15 and could possibly be one of only three sides to have gone unbeaten at home for an entire campaign but not go on to seal the title. Chelsea, for example, have already lost twice at Stamford Bridge this term. Tottenham fans will no doubt see joining this elite Premier League group of clubs as yet another indication that they are currently the best team in North London (sorry, Arsenal).
It would be a first for Tottenham as a club as well, although with an upcoming switch to a new stadium and a temporary stay at Wembley before then, Tottenham will be hoping they can keep up their impressive record in front of their own fans.
