Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona for the second year running, here are four players who should be sold this summer.
Yaya Toure
The Ivory Coast midfielder is 31-years-old now and looks a shadow of his former self in big matches as he fails to track back effectively. It has got to the stage where Toure needs two defensive-minded players alongside him in midfield for him to be a force in big games. Toure has been an exceptional servant to City over the years but the time has come to replace him with some younger blood.
Aleksander Kolarov
Manuel Pellegrini rotates his full-backs regularly but Kolarov showed in the Nou Camp that he lacks the discipline defensively or the consistent end product offensively to help City go further in the competition. With Jose Angel Tasende (‘Angelino’) making waves in the u21s, it may be time for Kolarov to move on, passing on more responsibility to Gael Clichy.
Stevan Jovetic
Jovetic was the man sacrificed from City’s Champions League squad when Wilfried Bony arrived in January and has failed to secure regular game-time since joining the club last summer. Although injuries hampered his first season, he has not been good enough when he has featured and should be sold.
Samir Nasri
Pellegrini called for ‘calm heads’ before the second leg against Barcelona but it was clear from the first whistle that Samir Nasri was not in the right state of mind to play. He should have been sent off for a swipe at Lionel Messi and was swiftly substituted at half time. Nasri has not been in top form this season and deserves to be punished for underperforming by being let go this summer.
