Five players who Liverpool should sell this summer, including Balotelli and Lovren

Liverpool will not win a trophy this year and are in danger of not reaching the Champions League. A summer clear-out is on the way.

Mario Balotelli

After the departure of star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona, Brendan Rodgers opted to splash out £16 million on maverick Mario Balotelli. At the time many thought it was a risk worth taking but the Italian has proven to be nothing more than a liability. Out of form and injured for the majority of the season, Balotelli has scored just one league goal and four in total. He should be straight out of the door in the summer if the Reds want to progress.

Dejan Lovren

Another big money move from last summer was the arrival of central defender Dejan Lovren, who had impressed at Southampton. The Croatian has failed to settle in at Anfield and has been fatally error-prone, making at least two more errors than any other outfield player in the Premier League. Liverpool have suffered rather than flourished with him at the heart of their defence and he should be sold at a cut price in the summer.

Glen Johnson

Many Liverpool fans were baffled when Rodgers decided to bring Johnson on in the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa. The right-back is not their biggest hero, often giving the ball away in dangerous areas. One of the reasons the Reds moved away from a four at the back system is because their full-backs had become liabilities with Johnson a major culprit.

Kolo Toure

The Ivorian used to be a fantastic central defender, particularly when he was at Arsenal. Signed on a free transfer from Manchester City, Toure has failed to secure regular football and when he has played has looked like he could cost the Reds dearly. In the recent thumping by the Gunners, Toure was very shaky and it was just further proof that he should move on this summer.

Fabio Borini

The Italian seems to be hanging around Anfield like a bad smell despite the fact Rodgers desperately tried to sell him last summer. Borini refused a move to Sunderland in a bid to prove that he can be a force at a club like Liverpool. He has barely scored a goal or even featured, meaning he should leave for the good of his own career.
