Joel Robles was at fault again for Everton against Leicester City and he may not be the man for the job.
Everton’s Joel Robles looks dejected
Everton were delighted to have won in the Premier League as they triumphed 4-2 against Leicester City, but it masked another shaky performance from goalkeeper Joel Robles.
Robles arguably could have done better for the Foxes’ first when Islam Slimani nutmegged him, but the second – a Marc Albrighton free-kick from out wide – was definitely a fault from the Spaniard.
The Toffees are playing well under Ronald Koeman this season, but between the sticks continues to be an area of concern, with Robles also criticised for his display during a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Veteran stopper Maarten Stekelenburg is the only other competition in goal and it seems as if neither perhaps have the quality required to play for a club with Champions League ambitions.
Everton’s Joel Robles
As Liverpool and Manchester City have both found out this season, a lack of a solid presence in goal can breed insecurity throughout the defence and if the Toffees genuinely want to compete with the so-called ‘big six’, they need an alternative to Robles and Stekelenburg.
Much of the transfer talk at Goodison Park has been about whether they can hold onto stars such as Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku, but director of football Steve Walsh needs to be tasked with identifying a ‘keeper that will become equally as important to the cause as those aforementioned names.
