Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing what William Saliba said about his loan move to Marseille.

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old has revealed that he ignored Arsenal’s desire for him to remain in England before joining Marseille for the 2021/22 season.

Speaking to La Provence, the centre-back said: “It was I who chose OM. Arsenal preferred that I go to England, but I knew that here it was the right choice. I pushed and pushed for that.”

Now, it’s quite bold for a young player to go against his club’s wishes, especially seeing as he wasn’t cheap at £27m.

However, it’s credit to Saliba that he felt brave enough and determined enough to fight for what he thought was best for his career.

Having said that, it’s worth noting how strange it is that the Frenchman is yet to play a single second of first-team football for Arsenal.

Hopefully, he gets a chance in the 2022/23 campaign.

Arsenal were right, but William Saliba’s decision makes sense

In our view, the Gunners were right to want Saliba to stay in England.

The Premier League is a notoriously difficult division to adapt to, so a loan move to another top-flight side in England would’ve been beneficial.

Southampton were said to be interested.

However, you can’t blame Saliba for choosing Europa League football with Marseille, where he’ll learn under a great coach in Jorge Sampaoli.

Some Arsenal fans seem torn over his comments.

One said that Saliba is just trying to wind Mikel Arteta up, while another praised him for having an elite mentality in holding firm against Arsenal.

Let’s see what some more Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about Saliba’s revelation…
