Even Leeds United supporters will wonder how exactly they achieved three points at Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.
Leeds moved seven points clear of the relegation zone with a come-from-behind victory at Molineux, winning 3-2 thanks to Luke Ayling’s last-gasp strike.
It was a horrific and shambolic first 45 minutes for a Whites side that could – and should – have been trailing by more than two goals, with Jonny and Francisco Trincao giving the hosts a commanding 2-0 lead.
United defender Pascal Struijk didn’t help the visitors’ cause and Raul Jimenez – whose red card in the second half – almost punished the Dutchman for a major gaffe just before half time by lobbing narrowly over the bar.
The Leeds youngster made a mess of a bouncing ball and Clinton Morrison has criticised him.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Huge chance. I don’t know what Pascal Struijk is doing there. He sees Daniel Podence – just clear it into row Z, you are into added time. I don’t know why he is trying to be clever.”
That incident was sort of typical of Leeds during a first half in which they didn’t really look like they knew what they were doing.
However, the spirit in Jesse Marsch’s outfit is undeniable because facing 10 men or not, scoring three goals in half-an-hour to win a contest like this 3-2 speaks volumes for the newfound belief that United have under the American manager.
