Willie Miller has gushed over the stunning goal Liverpool gem Leighton Clarkson scored for Aberdeen against Rangers. The Reds loanee netted during the Dons’ 3-2 loss on Tuesday.
Clarkson added another goal to his Aberdeen account to give the Dons the lead early in the second half. But Scott Arfield delivered two strikes in stoppage time to flip the scoreline in the Gers’ favour. Although none of the other four goals were a match for Clarkson’s effort.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a fruitful spell on loan at Pittodrie since arriving for the season in August. Clarkson now has five goals and two assists in 16 games across all competitions. Four of his goals and one assist have come in 14 Premiership games in Jim Goodwin’s side.

A powerful drive from the Reds product put the Dons ahead at home to the Gers after 53 minutes. Luis Lopes (45’) had drawn Aberdeen level at the break after Fashion Sakala (12’) broke the deadlock. But Arfield delivered on 95’ and 97 minutes to snatch all of the points.
Ibrox ace Allan McGregor was helpless to prevent Clarkson from scoring as his volley sailed into the bottom corner. The Clitheroe native took instant control of the ball on the edge of Rangers’ area as the Gers failed to deal with Liam Scales’ cross before arrowing his shot in.

Clarkson produced the perfect amount of power to flash the ball past McGregor before he could dive to his post. He also placed his effort to perfection despite James Sands charging out to close the midfielder down. It was Sands’ poor clearance that gave Clarkson the ball.
Liverpool loanee Clarkson’s goal for Aberdeen against Rangers stunned ex-Dons defender Miller. He gushed over the youngster’s effort and for his confidence to try such an attempt against a 42-cap Scotland stopper like McGregor. The Gers star earned his last cap in 2018.
“It’s everything you want to see at Pittodrie against Rangers,” he said on BBC Sportsound. “Clarkson is so cool and calm as he addresses the ball, doesn’t care a jot that an international goalkeeper is in the goal. A truly magnificent strike.”
