Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Steve Bruce withdrew Andy Carroll in place of Jacob Murphy against Arsenal.
The ex-Sunderland boss made the change in the 69th minute, with his Magpies side trailing 2-0 to the Gunners at that point.
Just eight minutes later, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his second goal of the night, and the game was well and truly over.
While some might see Murphy’s introduction as a positive move from Bruce, supporters were absolutely furious with the substitution.
Why? Well, in the ex-Norwich winger, the Magpies have a player who could actually cross the ball into Carroll and give him some service.

In that respect, to withdraw the side’s target man, in place of a creative source, simply doesn’t make sense with Newcastle losing 2-0.
Newcastle struggled to get into the game so much, that Murphy could barely make an impact when he came on.
WhoScored shows that the 25-year-old had just nine touches, and made only four passes, in his 21 minutes on the Emirates Stadium pitch.

Newcastle were utterly toothless, and it was a laughable substitution from Bruce, in our view as well as the view of the supporters below.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the 69th minute decision…
