Watford captain Troy Deeney has wished Fernando Forestieri a ‘speedy recovery’, after the Sheffield Wednesday forward confirmed he underwent successful knee surgery on social media.
Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal previously revealed the operation would keep Forestieri out until December at the earliest, having initially suffered the injury in March.
But after a turbulent summer, in which the 27-year-old was suspended by the Championship side for alleged indiscipline and strongly linked with moves to Fulham and Watford – his previous club, many Owls supporters were initially suspicious about the time frame given.
And after Deeney posted the following message in response to his former teammate, a few Hornets fans have started to put two and two together themselves.
Forestieri spent three full seasons at Watford, the last of which culminated in the Hertforshire side’s promotion to the Premier League in 2015.
But the Argentina-born star was sold to Wednesday later that year and has twice helped Carvalhal’s side into the Championship play-offs, finishing each of his two campaigns as the top scorer at Hillsborough.
