Newcastle United are keen on a move for striker Troy Deeney, according to ESPN.

Newcastle have reportedly made an enquiry over Deeney and would like to speak to him to gauge potential interest.

The Watford striker may be a long serving Hornets player, but he has been on record this season talking up Newcastle.

Watford captain Troy Deeney in action during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Watford at The Hawthorns on September 30, 2017 in West Bromwich, England.

Deeney was quizzed on Twitter about Newcastle and responded by praising stadium St James’ Park as unique in the Premier League, writing: “I think it’s probably the only ground in the country that’s still for the people do you agree?”

This does not mean Deeney is Newcastle-bound, but certainly it shows he has some level of admiration for the club and could become receptive to a transfer.

Deeney has had a difficult season at Watford due to injury and suspension, while there has been increased competition from new signing Andre Gray.

Newcastle could provide a fresh start for him, and he may be needed far more there right now than he is at Watford.
