Everton supporters will be looking for more progress under the Friedkins when the January window opens, building on what’s already been an encouraging start to their tenure.

David Moyes will also want to see that backing continue after a productive summer under the new American ownership.

The Friedkin Group recently marked a year since they took control of Everton from Farhad Moshiri, and there is no question that things look very different now compared to how they did back then.

A lot has improved during that time, but there is still a long way to go if the club are serious about making real progress.

Moyes was satisfied with how things went in the summer window, but it was never going to solve every issue in just one go.

The opening of the January transfer window is imminent, and Troy Deeney has suggested that Everton are a potential destination for one of the most promising Premier League players.

There have been reports linking Kobbie Mainoo with a loan move to Everton next month, running until the end of the season.

The Manchester United midfielder’s future has come under scrutiny recently, mainly due to his limited playing time under Ruben Amorim.

Speaking on The Football Exchange, Deeney said he could see Mainoo joining Everton in January.

“So you’re probably going to go, if you stay in England, to a Fulham or an Everton,” the former striker began by saying.

“He will then go into your dressing room and for the first month or the first week and you will get the great version and then you get what you’re getting from [Alejandro] Garnacho [at Chelsea].”

The 20-year-old could be exactly what Moyes needs as he looks to add more quality to his midfield options.

Everton may have to accept risks with Mainoo loan

Questions have been raised about the midfielder, and Roy Keane has already spoken out about potential risks Everton could face with Mainoo.

Mainoo’s limited playing time has become a talking point, especially after his brother was spotted wearing a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ shirt at a match, drawing plenty of attention online.

Everton are already thin in midfield, with Idrissa Gana Gueye away representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Toffees are also weighing up what to do with Harrison Armstrong.

Moyes has said he is thinking about bringing Armstrong back from Preston North End, but if that happens, they would need to ensure he gets enough minutes to keep progressing.

January could be a pivotal month for Everton as they look to address some key areas of the squad.
