Speaking on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, Troy Deeney has been discussing Bruno Guimaraes after his fantastic performance at the weekend.
Guimaraes was spellbinding against Brentford on Saturday, he bagged two goals and ran the show from midfield as he always does.
Guimaraes has undoubtedly been Newcastle’s best signing of the PIF era, and many are hoping that he’s the man to take the Magpies to the next level.
However, unfortunately for United, Deeney is led to believe that the Brazilian is destined to join a so-called bigger club, stating that he could end up joining Manchester United.

The new Wijnaldum
According to Deeney, Guimaraes could follow in Wijnaldum’s footsteps and join a bigger club from Newcastle.
“I think with Guimaraes, these smaller teams, Newcastle are a big club obviously, but it happened with Virgil (van Dijk) where they let him go to Southampton, and then see he’s that good and then you get a Chelsea or a Man United who go ‘there’s £100m’. I can see him being like a Wijnaldum who does well for two seasons and then goes to Liverpool and PSG, you could see him at Man United,” Deeney said.
A different era
Newcastle never used to be able to keep hold of their star players. The likes of Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko and Yohan Cabaye all had to leave to fulfil their ambitions, but things are different now.
Newcastle are now the richest club on the planet, and it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if they’re competing at the same level as Manchester United in one or two years’ time.
In fact, Newcastle have started just as well as United this season, so this gulf isn’t as big as it once was.
Is Guimaraes good enough to play for an elite club? Of course he is, but whether or not he would want to leave this Newcastle team that will only improve is another question entirely.
