Troy Deeney has criticised Arsenal central defender Ben White on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One for his role in the Gunners’ defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
Arsenal lost their 100% record in the Premier League this weekend, as they went down 3-1 to Manchester United away from home.
Although the Gunners had control of the match for much of the time, it was Erik ten Hag’s side who were more clinical and deservedly picked up all three points from the game.
Arsenal were defensively not great, and one of the defenders that Birmingham City striker and BBC Sport pundit Deeney has picked for criticism is the £120,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender White.
Deeney has noted how the England international centre-back was at fault for Manchester United’s third goal.

The BBC Sport pundit has observed that when Christian Eriksen was played through, White was holding a high-line and could not play the former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder offside.

Deeney said: “Ben White for me has to drop. There’s a nine-yard difference. Anyone will tell you when there is no pressure on the ball, you can’t play a high line.”
Staying positive
Arsenal were not going to win all of their Premier League games this season, and a loss was always going to happen for Mikel Arteta’s sie.
Now, of course, a defeat at Old Trafford is disappointing, but Arsenal fans should be pleased with the overall performance of the team.
Yes, there were some individual mistakes, but they happen all the time.
