Kieran Trippier warns Newcastle United against fixating on Manchester United star Marcus Rashford in the Carabao Cup final. The Premier League rivals clash at Wembley on Sunday.
Newcastle travel to the capital to take on Manchester United with a repeat of the 1999 FA Cup final. The Red Devils won the tie 2-0 during their triple-winning campaign. The tie also remains the Magpies’ most recent cup final appearance before this weekend’s encounter.
The Toon are further chasing their first major trophy since lifting the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. While Trippier is chasing only the second trophy of his professional career. He has only previously touched silverware after helping Atletico Madrid to win La Liga in 2020/21.

Trippier played a crucial role in Diego Simeone’s plans as Los Colchoneros won the Spanish top-flight title. The 32-year-old started in all 28 of his appearances and provided six assists. He also has 40 career appearances during UEFA competitions to support the Toon’s cause.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will certainly hope Trippier’s past exploits help the Magpies on Sunday when they face Manchester United. While he will have the unenviable job of trying to keep Rashford quiet. The 25-year-old has produced a career-best campaign this season.

Yet Trippier has warned Newcastle against fixating on what Rashford could produce during the Carabao Cup final for Manchester United. The 25-year-old has hit 24 goals and laid on nine assists in 36 games so far this season. His haul includes five goals in five EFL Cup ties.
“I have always said Marcus is an unbelievable player,” Trippier told talkSPORT. “I play with him for my country and know what he is all about. He is certainly hitting form now.
“But, you know, we can’t just focus on Marcus, they have other unbelievable players. It is a team sport but Marcus has hit form, let’s put it that way.”

Rashford has started in three of Manchester United’s five Carabao Cup ties ahead of facing Tripper’s Newcastle in the final. He has further scored during four of his appearances with goals against Aston Villa, Burnley, Nottingham Forest and a brace against Charlton Athletic.
The 51-cap England winger also laid on two assists in the second leg of the Red Devils’ win over Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals. Trippier, a 40-cap England right-back, started in four of Newcastle’s six Carabao Cup fixtures this term and has provided three assists so far.
