Kieran Trippier has claimed that the ‘unbelievable’ Newcastle United midfielder, Joelinton, reminds him of his former Tottenham Hotspur teammate, Mousa Dembele, as he told True Geordie’s Podcast.

The Newcastle right-back shared that when he was at Spurs ‘you couldn’t take the ball off’ Dembele and the same is happening with Joelinton in the north east.

During his days at Tottenham, Dembele was regarded as an underrated figure and someone who was much appreciated by his peers.

And it seems as though Joelinton is heading down that same road as the ex-Spurs man because he has turned things around in massive ways at St James’ Park.

Nonetheless, ever since Trippier stepped foot into Newcastle, he shared that he has been mightily impressed by the club’s Brazilian star.

“Joelinton, since I have come in, he has been unbelievable,” said Trippier. “The way he has won the ball back. The way he has played and performed.

“Sometimes, you need that manager. He maybe plays you in a different position. Or he gives you that confidence. You have seen the way he has performed, especially since I arrived. He has been unbelievable.

“He is powerful. The way he breaks things up. He reminds me of Mousa Dembele when I played with him at Tottenham. You can’t get the ball off him.”

Before Eddie Howe arrived at St James’ Park, Joelinton was a struggling striker that fans were probably hoping to see the back of.

But that’s not the case now because he has been one of the most improved players in the Premier League this season.

This change of fortune for Joleinton could also result in Newcastle saving millions because they have a solid number eight to pick from on a regular basis now.

Either way, Howe, his coaching staff and the player himself deserve huge credit for his recent form and proof that you should never write off any player.
