Last summer Tottenham Hotspur made the decision to cash in on wantaway defender Kyle Walker for £50 million.

Walker went on to win the Premier League with Manchester City and has no regrets over the transfer.

Tottenham felt comfortable letting Walker go, thanks to Kieran Trippier. His World Cup performances show precisely why.

Trippier has been playing at right wing-back for England with Walker used as part of a back three.

The former Burnley ace has been excelling for England, helping the Three Lions off to a terrific start at Russia 2018.

Trippier has linked up superbly with star striker Harry Kane, to England’s benefit.

He created six chances in the win over Tunisia, and provided an assist in England’s Panama demolition.

While he and Walker are both starring together, the Manchester City ace would be hard pressed to dislodge Trippier from the right-back spot.

Trippier is a huge talent and is peaking so far at this year’s tournament.

For Tottenham to land £50 million for Walker looked like smart business at the time if he was set on leaving, and Trippier’s performances in Russia highlight that it was the right call from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
