Kieran Trippier has named Joelinton as the Newcastle United player that has ‘taken him by surprise’ in training, as he posted on his Instagram story.
The Newcastle defender was conducting a Q/A on his IG account and he was asked, ‘Which Newcastle player has caught you by surprise in training?’
And the 31-year-old responded to the question with a picture of Joelinton and a two-word captain ‘this guy’.
When Joelinton arrived on Newcastle shores, there was a lot of spotlight on his head because he was the club’s record transfer.
Throughout the 25-year-old’s time upfront, he struggled for form, rhythm, scoring goals and just doing the basics.
But sometimes, a manager arrives that can either elevate your game to heights never seen before or take you down a notch or two.
For Joelinton, he has certainly hit the roof and beyond because he has been transformed under Eddie Howe.
That struggling striker no longer exits because the Toon Army faithful are now watching a hard-hitting midfielder dominate games from the middle of the park.
It’s a credit to the player, Howe and his coaching staff for taking him to such levels… and he is still going.
Added with that, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Joelitnon is also named Newcastle’s Player of the Season at the end of the campaign because he is certainly on the list.
