It has been an all too familiar tale of ups and downs at Everton so far this season.

Farhad Moshiri, Everton owner is seen prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Everton acted on the wishes of fans by replacing Sam Allardyce with Marco Silva in the summer and backed him with funds too.

There have been signs of promise for Everton with the likes of Richarlison quickly establishing himself after his big money move from Watford.

But Silva has just two wins from his opening seven Premier League games.

The usual questions have been asked with some wondering whether Silva is overrated from spells at Hull and Watford, which showed promise but ultimately ended in relegation and indignation respectively.

The Toffees’ season so far has been perfectly vignetted in the last few days.

A convincing 3-0 win over Fulham last time out in the Premier League promptly followed by a defeat at home to Southampton in the Carabao Cup, not ideal for a team desperate for their first silverware in too long.

While Richarlison has been a hit, most Everton fans feel the club failed to truly replace Romelu Lukaku.

Cenk Tosun scored his first of the season in the win over Fulham but has been as hit and miss in his individual performances as Silva’s side have in theirs.

It may be the club has to wait until next summer to resume the search for a top class striker who can help transform the Merseysiders into Champions League challengers.

Players of that calibre are rarely available in the winter window and the deals are often long drawn out affairs.

But in the meantime, here are three Premier League strikers Silva could realistically target in January which are better than what he has.

Javier Hernandez Chicharito during the friendly match between West Ham United and SCO Angers on August 3, 2018 in Grodig, Austria.

Javier Hernandez

It has not happened for Hernandez at West Ham. With Marko Arnautovic outstanding in the lone striker role, Hernandez has been restricted to a role on the bench.

The Mexican all-time leading goalscorer is West Ham’s highest earner on around £140,000 per week.

A loan for the rest of the season from January with an option to buy may suit all parties perfectly and Chicharito would be the poacher Everton badly need.

Danny Welbeck of England arrives at the stadium prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Quarter Final match between Sweden and England at Samara Arena on July 7, 2018 in Samara, Russia.

Danny Welbeck

Way down the pecking order at Arsenal behind the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Welbeck would be the perfect short-term fix for Silva.

Quick, clever and a good finisher with pedigree, Welbeck would be first choice at Goodison Park and could forge a readymade relationship with former Gunners teammate Theo Walcott.

Welbeck will not be the long-term answer and a goal record of one in every four does not make great reading.

But he brings a lot more to the game than just goals and would not break the bank for the Toffees.

Callum Wilson

Another Englishman with pace who would need no time to settle is Bournemouth star Callum Wilson. With a goal record better than one every three, Wilson looks ready to make the next step in his career.

Everton would represent the ideal next stop to test his ability to perform for a bigger club. He could forge a frightening partnership with Walcott and Richarlison.

The only sticking point would be that the Cherries would likely demand a pretty penny for their star goalscorer.
