Three Everton loanees were on the scoresheet this weekend.
It was a good weekend for Everton as the Sam Allardyce era got underway with a 2-0 victory at home to Huddersfield Town.
There was further positive news, too, with three of the club’s loanees – Henry Onyekuru, Kieran Dowell and Callum Connolly – all getting on the scoresheet for their respective temporary sides.
Onyekuru, the talented Nigerian striker, hit the winner for Anderlecht in their 2-1 victory away to Lokeren.
Meanwhile, midfielder Kieran Dowell, who has produced some excellent displays this season, scored in Nottingham Forest’s 4-2 defeat to Ipswich Town.
Amongst the Ipswich scorers was another Everton loanee in Callum Connolly, with the versatile youngster, who was playing in midfield on this occasion, also providing an assist.
All three players will hope to be involved with the Everton first-team squad next season in some capacity and Onyekuru certainly has a very good chance of achieving that objective- he has scored eight goals in 16 league games so far this season.
Dowell, meanwhile, has thrived for Forest. Part of the England squad that won the U20 World Cup this year, he is a fine prospect, although the fact that Everton have so many midfielders to call upon may mean that he will have to wait some time for his opportunity.
As for Connolly, the 20-year-old has demonstrated his versatility as he is capable of playing anywhere across the back four or as a defensive midfielder. His adaptability could well lead to him being involved with the Everton first-team next season.
