Reported Sunderland target Scott Tanser is set to leave St Johnstone when his contract expires at the end of the season, manager Callum Davidson has admitted to Herald Scotland.
While the injury-enforced absence of Denver Hume hasn’t hit the Black Cats as hard as initially feared, Lee Johnson’s promotion-chasing side will still look to bring in some competition on the left-hand side when the summer window opens.
Jake Vokins, the Southampton loanee, made his mark during last night’s 2-0 win at Accrington Stanley.
But the January addition will be heading back to St Mary’s in a matter of weeks, leaving Sunderland in the market for a new left-back once more.
The Northern Echo reports the Wearside giants have made an approach for Tanser, the 26-year-old who has played League One football for Port Vale and Rochdale.
Tanser will be a free agent on 1 July and it seems St Johnstone are fighting a losing battle to keep the set-piece specialist at McDiarmid Park.

“I think so,” Davidson said when asked if Tanser would leave. “It’s looking less and less likely in our favour.
“We’ve tried our best to keep him but at the moment he’s not given us any positive signs that he wants to stay. These things can change quickly, though.”
Luke O’Nien, Callum McFadzean and Conor McLaughlin have all stood in at left-back in recent months, with Sunderland embarking on a run of seven wins in eight games – including Sunday’s Papa John’s Trophy final victory over Tranmere Rovers.
