Trezeguet has become Aston Villa’s latest signing, and will link up with international teammate Ahmed Elmohamady.

Trezeguet has told Aston Villa’s official website that Ahmed Elmohamady told his countryman before he completed his move that it was an amazing club and he would love life with the Villans.

The winger has become Dean Smith’s latest addition ahead of Villa’s return to the Premier League. The move has seen the 24-year-old link up with international teammate Elmohamady, who has spent the last two years in the Midlands.

And after completing his switch to Villa, Trezeguet suggested that the Egypt captain could not have spoken higher of the club or done more to convince him that they were the perfect side for the attacker to join this summer.

“He’s my captain and always speaks with me about Aston Villa, saying it’s an amazing club and that I’d be happy here,” he told the club’s official website. “I asked him a lot of questions. He will help me and believes I will help the team.

“It will help having him here with me and I look forward to working with him again.”

It is going to be fascinating to see how Villa get on in their first year back in the Premier League. There are some who fear that they have made the same mistake that resulted in Fulham making an immediate return to the Championship last season by making so many signings.

Dean Smith the head coach

However, three of the players Smith has brought in were on loan with the club last season. And it is probably fair to say that they would not have gone up had they not brought in Tyrone Mings in January, while Anwar El Ghazi, of course, scored in the play-off final.

Meanwhile, both Jota and Ezri Konsa worked with Smith at Brentford, so he will have a very good idea of how they work, and how he can get the best out of them. Some may be sceptical about Villa during this coming season, but it should be no surprise if they go much closer to emulating Wolves’ performance last term than Fulham’s.
