Trey Wingo sends warning to Bryson DeChambeau as he gives his verdict on rules violation at The Open

Bryson DeChambeau was embroiled in a bitter rules controversy on Friday at The Open.

DeChambeau posted a second-round 66 at The Open, one that put him just one stroke adrift of the leader, Lucas Herbert, heading into the weekend.

However, things changed very quickly for the 32-year-old after he left the 18th green at Royal Birkdale.

Bryson DeChambeau‘s Friday at The Open Championship ended in disaster after he was informed that he violated a rule on the fifth hole at Royal Birkdale.

DeChambeau was deemed to have trampled down the tall grass behind his ball and was subsequently handed a two-stroke penalty.

The 32-year-old was devastated after the incident and even threatened to withdraw from the tournament.

DeChambeau’s agent said his client was serious about withdrawing from The Open.

However, the LIV Golf star has since confirmed that he will be playing on Saturday.

Trey Wingo took to his social media accounts on Friday night and sent a very strong warning to DeChambeau.

“So Bryson DeChambeau’s agent has just come out and said he’s 100% serious. He’s not sure if Bryson will play tomorrow,“ Wingo said.

“Are you kidding me? If Bryson DeChambeau doesn’t play tomorrow because of the violation, which was obvious, whether it was intentional or not, it’s the biggest b–––h move in the history of sports. Nothing comes close.

“There is nobody in front of you on the leaderboard that has ever won a major. You’ve won two U.S. Opens. Suck it up. Deal with it, and go out and play the golf you’ve played for the last two days.

“If you don’t play on Saturday, it’s the biggest b–––h move in the history of sports, and nothing even comes close.“

Bryson DeChambeau has to use two-stroke penalty as fuel

In fairness to DeChambeau, his comments about potentially withdrawing were said in the heat of the moment.

The two-time US Open champion simply has to use the incident on Friday as fuel to fire him up over the weekend at Birkdale.

He feels like he was treated harshly on Friday, and now he has to develop a siege mentality.

DeChambeau’s back is against the wall at The Open, and the entire golfing world is watching him, waiting to see how he responds.

And how he performs on Saturday at Birkdale will tell us a lot about his character.
