Trevor Sinclair has hailed the ‘brilliant’ decision-making from Liverpool’s young gun, Harvey Elliott, and how he is ‘excited’ to see him in action this season, as he told talkSPORT.
The former Manchester City player touched upon the ‘superb’ start Elliott made to the previous campaign, only for a cruel ankle injury at Elland Road to take months out of his season.
It will be interesting if Klopp opts to throw him in the starting XI ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League opener at the weekend.
The 19-year-old will be returning to his old stomping ground, as ex-Everton boss, Marco Silva, starts off Premier League life with Fulham in the most difficult way possible.
Whether it’s a place in the starting XI, or from the bench, one this is for sure, Elliott has everything in his locker to produce an outstanding campaign, as Sinclair lauded his talents.
“Harvey Elliott last season, he started the season superbly well,” said Sinclair. “I was absoutley gutted when he dislocated his ankle. He was playing well and his decision-making was very good on the ball.
“He seemed like he had an older head on his shoulders. He played one-touch when he needed to, then he played two-touch when he had a bit more time and more touches when he needed to.
“Talk about a lad whose decision-making for a young player is brilliant. That year at Blackburn must have done him the world of good, so I am excited to see him. And Carvalho, excited to see what he brings.”
LIVERPOOL’S FUTURE
Whilst the experienced pros clog it out week in and week out by playing every game possible last season, underneath there are some top talents emerging from Merseyside.
Three of those will want first-team football – and a serious amount – this season, with Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho all hoping to make their mark.
Given that Klopp started with Elliott last season, then it could be argued that he is ahead of Jones because he only played 27 games in all competitions last season.
Someone like Carvalho is new to the building, so, more than likely, Klopp will build him up, allow him to settle, before throwing him into the deep end.
Either way, big things are expected of the trio and when the proven stars part ways, like Sadio Mane has done this summer, then it will be the ample time for the youngsters to shine.
