Trevor Sinclair has praised Ange Postecoglou for helping turn the career of Cameron Carter-Vickers around at Celtic after his previous struggles at Tottenham Hotspur.

With Ange Postecoglou now Tottenham’s new manager, Sinclair was speaking about how he ‘improves players’, with Cameron Carter-Vickers’ name dropped into the hat, as he told talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old, after making five appearances for Spurs, initially moved to Celtic on a loan deal before making the move for good and then going on to rack up the trophies.

It’s a different level of league, but when the American was in north London, whilst there was a lot of promise about the player, he struggled to showcase his true worth.

Even several loan spells across the English football league didn’t help the centre-back’s cause, before he found his home at Parkhead.

There’s no doubt that Carter-Vickers took his game to new levels under Postecoglou’s guidance and Spurs fans will now be hoping he brings the same magic to their team.

“Postecoglou improves players as well,” said Sinclair. “You look at Carter-Vickers. He couldn’t get into the Tottenham squad. He got him up there and he was almost Player of the Year for Celtic this season. Absolutely superb.

“He played right to the end and up until he had to go and get an operation. He got himself into the American squad. But he has raised his profile and performance so much that he ended up getting into the US team.”

Tottenham’s defender under Postecoglou

The Greek-born Australian might be known for his attack-minded style of play, but the biggest issue at Spurs is the club’s defence.

Several players have just looked off-colour and simply not good enough for a while now, so if Postecoglou can improve individual players, then it would help the team massively.

From Eric Dier to Davinson Sanchez at the back to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma in midfield, the best thing Tottenham’s new manager can do is make what he currently has better rather than needing 10+ players via the transfer market.
