Trevor Sinclair has urged Everton to appoint Nottingham Forest boss, Steve Cooper, as their new manager ahead of Frank Lampard, as he told talkSPORT.

Nottingham Forest were staring at relegation during the early stages of the season, before the Midlands side sacked Chris Hughton and then brought in, Cooper to save them from imploding.

The Welshman has transformed the fortunes of the two-time European Cup winners, as they sit seventh in the Championship table and in with a real chance of promotion.

That’s something the Forest fans could have only dreamt about at the start of the campaign, when their style of play was out of the window and their goalkeepers were doing their best Loris Karius impressions.

Nonetheless, with the role at Goodison Park being vacant, it’s Lampard who is now seemingly the ‘leading contender’ for the job, as reported by the Times.

And rather than go for the former England midfielder, Sinclair thinks there are ‘better’ options out there, like the man at the City Ground.

“He (Lampard) is a risk because he is a young manager,” said Sinclair. “And he has only been at two clubs.

“I would say someone like a Steve Cooper, who is doing really well at Nottingham Forest. I think he is doing exceptionally well there.

“When he went in. They were second from bottom and he has done an absolutely superb job there.

“There are other candidates that could steady that ship maybe better than Frank (Lampard).”

During his days at Swansea and now in Forest colours, Cooper has proven that he is very much possession-orientated.

His teams are very easy-on-the-eye and it’s fair to possibly compare him to someone like Brighton boss, Graham Potter.

Not only will the style of play keep the fans upright, but he has showcased a great quality to get the best out of younger players.

Whilst Everton wouldn’t take a risk with someone like Cooper now, during these next few years, whether it’s with Forest or someone else, he will be a Premier League boss one day.
