Pundit Trevor Sinclair believes Manchester City will break Paul Pogba’s transfer record ‘when’ they move for Tottenham Hotspur star.

Former Premier League and England star Sinclair – who served the likes of Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and boyhood club City with distinction during his career – has been having his say on the prospect of Dele Alli leaving Spurs.

Alli has been a revelation for the North Londoners since signing for a bargain £5million from MK Dons.

His goals, assists and brilliant all around performances have helped Mauricio Pochettino’s side establish themselves in the Premier League top four over the last two seasons.

But it has also alerted some of Europe’s elite – and richest – clubs to his talents.

The Daily Mail reported that Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain is monitoring the situation of Alli.

And Sinclair predicts his old club will break the world record £89million fee bitter rivals Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba ‘when’ it happens.

“World record when it happens,” Sinclair posted on Twitter in reply to a story about the speculation.

Spurs fans will certainly be confident it won’t happen given their club’s progress in recent years and the fact the new stadium is on the horizon.

If it does, though, it would be the second time in the last four years the North Londoners have received a world record transfer fee for a player after Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Real Madrid back in 2013.

It also raises the debate over who fans would rather have in their team, Alli or Pogba given they are both young midfield dynamos.

Alli’s form this season puts Pogba’s price tag to shame and at just 20-years-old he can only get better too, a frightening prospect for Spurs’ Premier League rivals.
