Leeds United striker Chris Wood caused a stir ahead of their match against Sunderland when he took to social networking site Twitter to announce that he won’t play against the Black Cats.
Wood has been heavily linked with a move to Burnley, and he didn’t feel it “right” to play the match.
The New Zealand international released a statement on his official Twitter page, revealing that discussions are going on with a club in the Premier League over a move.
Although he didn’t mention the identity of the Premier League club, it is an open secret that he is heading towards Burnley.
The report adds that the 25-year-old will undergo a medical on Sunday ahead of his move.
Former West Ham United player and now BBC pundit, Trevor Sinclair, has criticised his decision to not play against Sunderland. He says that Wood has avoided responsibility and it was “poor” of him to step down.
“He is employed by Leeds United. It’s a huge football club. He should be privileged and feel pride to play for them,” said Sinclair on Final Score.
“He is their top scorer. He’s got responsibilities to his teammates, to his manager, and to the fans to play the game. For him to step down, I think it’s poor.”
