The now-Leeds United boss was sacked by the Premier League club last December.

Trevor Sinclair has told BBC Sport that Garry Monk is doing a “superb job” at Leeds United and believes the Swansea City crisis is almost looking ‘ironic’ as a result.

Leeds are fifth in the Championship after smashing Preston 4-1 on Boxing Day to consolidate the feel-good vibe surrounding their Premier League promotion bid.

If they were to win promotion then it looks like Swansea – who sit 19th in the table, four points adrift of safety – could be one of the clubs who replace them in the Championship.

The 37-year-old was fired as manager of the Swans 12 months ago and City have just sacked their third manager since, with Bob Bradley parting company with the top-flight club – 85 days after replacing Monk’s successor Francesco Guidolin.

It certainly looks as if Swansea’s loss is Leeds’ gain, and Sinclair alluded to a sense of irony.

“The irony is what’s going on at the Liberty Stadium”, Sinclair told BBC Sport.

“You think how he was let go by Swansea City. He’s gone in there [to Leeds] and he’s doing a superb job for me.”

Leeds visit Aston Villa tomorrow in the knowledge that victory would enhance their promotion credentials, whereas managerless Swansea host Bournemouth on Saturday.
