Sinclair says Andy Carroll’s goal for West Ham may have been even better.

There have not been too many moments to smile about at the London Stadium this season, but Andy Carroll’s spectacular effort against Crystal Palace was one to savour.

The oft-injured striker was the picture of full health as he acrobatically stretched to score a sensational bicycle kick.

The goal helped West Ham to a 3-0 victory, a win which took the Hammers up to 12th in the Premier League table, above last season’s champions Leicester City.

Carroll’s goal even got the backing of the scorer of one of the best bicycle kicks in English football history, Trevor Sinclair.

The former West Ham winger netted his while playing for QPR at Loftus Road against Barnsley in a 1997 FA Cup tie.

Quizzed on Twitter by a supporter over whose was better, modest Sinclair suggested that Andy Carroll’s was the superior strike.

The goal was just Carroll’s third of the season, and first in 2017. His tally has of course been impacted by injury, with just nine appearances in total.

Yet this was an illustration of what he is capable of, and a source of frustration surely that fitness issues have plagued his spell in East London.
