Trevor Sinclair has claimed that Aston Villa loanee, Matt Targett, is now going ‘under the radar’ at Newcastle United, as he told talkSPORT.

The former England winger praised the 26-year-old for his debut performance for Newcastle after they beat Everton 3-1 on Tuesday.

It was a statement of intent performance from the Magpies and one that has now got the Newcastle faithful believing that they will stay up.

Many Villa fans were left surprised when the club allowed Targett to leave for St James’ Park on deadline day, especially on a loan deal.

Either way, he thrived in his first game in black and white colours, and this is what Sinclair had to say about the player and his new side.

“I thought Newcastle were absolutely outstanding,” said Sinclair. “I thought St James’ Park was as it was when I used to play there. It was a special, special place to play.

“I think Targett is the result of Lucas Digne leaving (Everton) and going to Villa.

“Also, I think he (Targett) is under the radar and he’s going to be a very important player for Newcastle.”

Targett won’t be playing on Sunday when his Villa side take on his new team at St James’ Park.

It’s Steven Gerrard pitting his tactical wit against Eddie Howe and it will be interesting to see if Targett gives him a few tips.

The former Southampton player has seen what Gerrard is about during these past few weeks.

And a few words to his new teammates, here and there, might just prove to be helpful.

Some tips might be needed on how to deal with Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho, after they showed once more during Villa’s 3-3 draw against Leeds last night, the havoc they can cause.
