Newcastle United are close to signing Almiron.

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Miguel Almiron.
The Paraguayan playmaker was last night having a medical at St James’ Park, SkySports reported.
Almiron will become Newcastle’s record signing, breaking the 2005 record spend on Michael Owen.
The move is subsequently being greeted with much fanfare, with supporters glad that the club are finally spending money.
One pundit has preached caution, with Trevor Francis questioning whether Almiron can live up to the expectations.

He told BeIN Sports: “They are all excited because they are bringing in a £20 million player.
“They have got a 50,000 regular attendance t St James’ Park, but they won’t have a clue who this player is.”
Francis’ comments do Newcastle fans a disservice, many of who were already previously aware of his MLS exploits.
Those who were not previously, will have been quickly familiarising themselves with Almiron’s career so far over the past few days.
£20 million is simply the going rate for a promising attacker nowadays, and while he is unproven in European football, it’s just nice to see Newcastle spending and taking a gamble.
