Celtic wanted to sign Trevor Carson from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports reported in January that Celtic had a bid of £375,000 for Carson turned down by Motherwell.

The Hoops were reportedly looking for cover for first-choice goalkeeper Craig Gordon at the time, with the Scotland international then suffering from a long-term injury.

Celtic eventually signed Scott Bain on loan from Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee, and secured the services of the 26-year-old goalkeeper a permanent contract earlier this month.

The Hoops may not need another goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, and even if they do, then they are unlikely to secure the services of Carson and going back for him could prove to be a fruitless effort.

As the following posts on social networking site Twitter suggest, the 30-year-old former Sunderland prospect wants to play for Motherwell next season well.

Carson made the posts following Motherwell’s 2-0 defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park in Glasgow in the final of the Scottish Cup on Saturday afternoon.
