Trevor Brooking says he is really upset with West Ham striker Diafra Sakho’s injury.

West Ham United legend Trevor Brooking has told the club’s official website that he is really upset about Diafra Sakho’s injury, and suggests a line should be drawn under his attempts to leave over the summer.

The Hammers have struggled for goals this season, as Andy Carroll has again struggled with injuries, whilst summer signings Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza have yet to even find the net.

In fact, when Diafra Sakho scored for West Ham against Manchester United at the end of last month, it was the first Premier League goal scored by a striker; a stat which sums up just how much West Ham’s attackers have struggled this season.

Unfortunately for the Hammers, Sakho – who was making just his second appearance of the season – then picked up a hamstring injury later in the game against Manchester United, and is likely to miss the rest of 2016.

It’s a major blow for West Ham given that the Senegal international has looked like the Hammers’ most dangerous striker, and certainly a blow for Sakho himself as he looks to re-establish himself under Slaven Bilic.

Sakho, 26, looked set for a summer move away from West Ham, as he first submitted a transfer request according to Sky Sports, before The Telegraph reported that a £16m move to West Brom fell through over a medical issue.

Now, Sakho will be hoping to save his West Ham career, and club legend Trevor Brooking has told the club’s official website that he hopes Sakho will kick on, and a line must be drawn under the whole confusion surrounding his future over the summer.

Brooking admitted he was really upset about Sakho’s injury, as he is a striker who can turn and run at defences thanks to his pace, suggesting that he will be a big miss for the struggling Hammers.

“We need more goals and I was really upset actually for Sakho, because I thought Sakho did really well and made a difference in the Tottenham game,” said Brooking. “He scored against Manchester United at Old Trafford but did his hamstring. He is a player who can turn defences around and it is a big loss.”

“He needed to get playing again after all the traumas of the last few months, whatever the reasons for that, you’ve got to put a line under it, and hopefully he’s going to kick on,” he added.
