Trent Alexander-Arnold has praised Cody Gakpo for the role he played in his goal during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City.
Heading towards the latter stages of the game, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were staring at a defeat against Pep Guardiola’s men – Steve McManaman was critical of Alisson Becker.
But Trent Alexander-Arnold came up with the goods with a brilliant pin-point finish from the edge of the box after he was fed the ball from Mohamed Salah – Stuart Pearce felt the England man was ‘nervous’ during the game.
But Liverpool’s man on the right was sure to mention his unsung hero of a teammate in Cody Gakpo and his ‘amazing’ run which opened everything up, as he told Premier League Productions (25/11/23 at 2:40 pm).
The 24-year-old didn’t start the game but was brought into the fold as a second-half substitute and he made a telling impact.
All of Jurgen Klopp’s subs, including Ryan Gravenberch, made an impact, but Trent Alexander-Arnold was sure to highlight Cody Gakpo’s unselfish efforts.
Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool
“In that position there when Mo (Salah) gets it, we work on our triangles,” said Alexander-Arnold.
“There should be three players. There should be me, Mo and the number eight. You see Cody’s made an amazing run to take away the centre-back and the fullback, then I have been able to back up the play.
“When Mo gets the ball, I try to get into that space to potentially whip one into the back post and get one across goal, or if I can, get a shot off and I was able to do that.”

Point suits Liverpool
The Liverpool fans, players and their manager will see this as a tick in the box because it’s a very good point.
Many are questioning if the team can challenge for the Premier League title.
Well, with teams now at the start of the hardest period of the season, if the Reds see this off, then they are going to be very dangerous during the final few months.
One thing is for sure, Liverpool always end the season very well, so this next month or so is going to be the most important for them.
