Liverpool players are still completely baffled by the events that unfolded at Goodison Park on Saturday, as the Reds drew 2-2 at Everton.

Sadio Mane had Liverpool in front early on, but Jordan Pickford’s rash challenge on Virgil van Dijk – which may now see him miss the rest of the season – went unpunished due to an offside in the build-up.

Michael Keane headed Everton level, only for Mohamed Salah to put Liverpool ahead again in the second half, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin found the net yet again.

Then the real drama kicked off. Richarlison was sent off for a dreadful challenge on Thiago, and Liverpool thought they had won it when Jordan Henderson buried a late winner.

However, Mane was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up, which can only have been by millimetres as VAR ruled the goal out.

Liverpool players were incensed by such a harsh offside call and due to Pickford’s challenge, with the mood hardly improved by Manchester City winning later in the day.

On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold took to Twitter to post a photo of him presumably playing FIFA 21.

Alexander-Arnold captioned the photo with just three words; ‘VAR mode off’, as Saturday’s bizarre events clearly left him wanting to escape and focus elsewhere.
