Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has admitted to ITV Sport that Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold did not look in the best condition when he left the field with an injury.
Very little was known about the severity of the Liverpool full-back’s injury last night, but he will be set for scans over the coming days.
Alexander-Arnold was forced to hobble off in the final minutes of England’s game with Austria, after damaging his left thigh.
And Grealish says that he is hoping that the Liverpool defender’s problem isn’t as serious as first feared.
“I’m not too sure what’s happened,” Grealish admitted. “It didn’t look good when he was walking off the pitch, but fingers crossed he’ll be okay in the next few days.”
Bad news
Sadly it does seem that Alexander-Arnold’s hopes of going to Euro 2020 are now dangling by a thread again.
Grealish was also seen with ice on his calf after the game, but he insisted that the problem was not a serious one.
Liverpool will hope that Alexander-Arnold hasn’t torn a hamstring, as that could even put doubt over him returning for pre-season.
Potential replacements
Both club and country will now face an anxious wait over the next 48 hours, when Gareth Southgate suggested that more would be known on the problem.
If the Liverpool man doesn’t make the squad then Jesse Lingard and James Ward-Prowse appear to be the most likely players to make it into the squad, although Ben Godfrey and Ben White may also have an outside chance.
