According to a report by The Times, Euro 2020 squads are set to be increased from a 23-man limit to a 26-man limit, which could be great news for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Liverpool full-back’s international career has hit something of a stumbling block. He was left out of Gareth Southgate’s last squad, and despite the fact he’s clearly an immensely talented player, he’s fallen down the pecking order at right-back.
The right-back spot is amongst the most competitive in the England squad, with the likes of Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Alexander Arnold vying for the role.
However, now with a 26-man limit, all four players can have a spot in the side without upsetting the equilibrium of the squad.
Yes, picking four right-backs does sound a little ludicrous, but you also have to consider the versatility of these players, with Walker being able to fill-in at centre-half when needed while Alexander-Arnold has long-been touted as a potential option in the middle of the park for the Three Lions.
While you could make a case for leaving Alexander-Arnold out of the 23-man squad, it would be almost impossible for Southgate to ignore the Liverpool man’s talents if he has three extra players to pick.

Why would you not choose to take arguably the best crosser of the ball in the world to the Euros? Even if he’s only an option off the bench, his assist record speaks for itself and if England are chasing a goal at any point in the tournament, there are few attacking threats as effective as Alexander-Arnold, despite the fact he’s a full-back.
These 26-man squad reports have seemingly given Alexander-Arnold’s chances of going to the Euros a new lease of life, and the Liverpool star has every reason to be buzzing if this report is accurate.
