Toni Kroos has been speaking in glowing terms of his Champions League opponents and potential transfer suitors.
Manchester United have been linked heavily with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos over the past couple of months.
It all seemed to kick into gear when David Moyes was spotted taking in a Bayern Munich game against Borussia Monchengladbach in January – sitting alongside the German international’s agent.
When it emerged Kroos’ contract talks over an extension to the final 18 months of his current deal had reached a stalemate it seemed he might just be on the way.
Of course it was a potential deal that had fans salivating. Kroos is a highly talented player and something of a regular in the Bayern side, despite the strength in depth in Bavaria.
On Tuesday night United will face off against the player in a Champions Leage quarter-final – as The Red Devils attempt to defeat the best team in world football – and advance to the semi-finals.
Kroos is now even more likely to play the majority of the tie, with a former United target in Thiago Alcantara suffering a knee injury against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Not many pundits are giving United a chance in hell against Kroos and co – but the player himself is not taking anything for guaranteed.
Kroos found himself in a storm recently for seeming to insinuate that the draw against United was as good as a bye to the semi-finals – although it soon emerged that was not the case.
But today he has been speaking to Bayern Munich’s official website ahead – and has confirmed that United will be no walkovers.
“We cannot forget that they still have very players in their ranks and they still have their usual policy of a real fighting spirit…I think that it is clear we will need two very, very good days if we wish to do well against a team like United – we need two absolute top days to go through.”
Nice words Kroos – but are you just softening up your future employers.
United fans will undoubtedly hope that is the case.
