Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Everton are all the talk of the papers today. Get the latest here.
All the last 24 hours transfer news and gossip you need to know in one place…
There was a lot of excitement among Chelsea fans yesterday when the club was linked with 23-year-old Brazilian forward Willian.
The attacker currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk, and has been there for a couple of seasons, but would surely welcome a move to west London.
Well put it on hold for now. Andre Villas-Boas has put the brakes on this deal, saying he won’t consider it as Willian is cup-tied in the Champions League.
He did add that the Brazilian is an exciting player, so there is interest, but perhaps this one is more likely to happen in the summer.
Snippet. Short. News in brief. Made-up? Call it what you will, the Daily Mail file a three line story, with no clear sources, that Manchester United are after Brazilian Leandro Damiao.
Perhaps the paper read our report last week when we named him as one of the five strikers United should target if money was no object.
So while there is no hint that this may be remotely true, United fans should be grateful at least that they have been linked with such an exciting prospect.
The Brazilian has previously been linked with PSG and Tottenham, but again we would be surprised if any deal materialises within the next seven days.
One very interesting piece of gossip is the story that Manchester United are holding talks with Crystal Palace full-back Nathaniel Clyne.
The defender has excelled so far this season in the Championship, and would have been a perfect solution for Arsenal‘s full back problem, if Arsene Wenger did not have such an aversion to spending.
United’s right-back position has been rotated between about five different players this season, but if Clyne signs, the future of Rafael da Silva could be up in the air.
Crystal Palace would be loathe to lose him with a possible Carling Cup final on the horizon, so whether this deal goes ahead could depend on how Palace get on against Cardiff this week.
Should Manchester City fans be ready for a new signing? They were linked heavily with former Roma winger Alessio Cerci in the summer, but the deal was never sanctioned.
Now Sky Sports report that Fiorentina are willing to listen to offers, and he would likely be available for under £10 million.
Speculation from Italy has also linked Everton, but we won’t hold our breath on that one, especially if City are still keen.
City’s willingness to spend could depend on whether they can offload Carlos Tevez.
And finally, will Chelsea give up on Fernando Torres? Let us ask this question in a different manner, with eight days remaining of the transfer window last year did anybody predict he could leave Liverpool?
Anything can still happen, it just takes a moment of madness from a panicked, desperate owner. We are asking if Roman Abramovich is going to press the panic button and bring in Demba Ba and axe the under-performing Spaniard.
