Arsenal, Aston Villa, Ipswich Town and Manchester United are all rumoured to be on the move.
All the last 24 hours football gossip you need to know in one place:
First up is the story in today’s papers that Arsenal could make a shock bid for Kieran Richardson. The Sunderland player is from London originally and would likely jump at a move back home to a big club.
Richardson can play in midfield and defence and being able to deputise at left-back, where the Gunners have experienced problems of late, could make him a useful signing.
We are sceptical whether this one will happen, but there’s a whole month ahead for a deal to be done so lets wait and see.
Another former Manchester United star on the move is Alan Smith. The striker-turned-midfielder is on the verge of being released by Newcastle United, where he failed to score a single goal, and The Sun reports that Paul Jewell is looking to bring him to Ipswich Town to help revitalise his career.
This one looks almost nailed on, Smith should take the opportunity to get himself playing regularly and rebuild himself.
One loan deal which should be tied up in the next few days is Robbie Keane‘s return to the Premier League. The Press Association today reported that Keane is back training with Tottenham, with a view to signing for Aston Villa.
A move to Villa from LA Galaxy would be good for all parties, and Keane renew a strike partnership with Darren Bent. Whether he confesses to being a boyhood Villa fan is another matter, and Liverpool could be outsiders for his signature.
Both The Independent and Telegraph claimed Manchester United have tied up a summer move for Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, which was denied last month.
Now the Daily Mail claims the Red Devils are poised to break the bank to attempt to sign the South American this January.
With Benfica still in the Champions League, we doubt very much whether this one is a goer right now, but it does throw more weight behind the rumour that he will be on United’s radar in the summer.
And finally, this very website is asking whether Manchester United will weigh in with a bid for Wesley Sneijder.
As far as summer transfer stories go, this is the one which got away, but the papers believe the Dutchman is back on United’s agenda and there could be some transfer action this month.
Our article gives our take on whether or not this mega-deal is likely to happen.
