Swansea City have emerged as shock contenders to sign World Cup winner David Villa. Bookies slashed the odds on the striker signing with the Swans from 40/1 to just 8/11 yesterday, indicating there is movement behind the scenes on a potential transfer. Villa has been in and out of the team at Barcelona this season, while Michael Laudrup has been raiding La Liga to add to Swansea’s squad ever since arriving in the summer.
Liverpool may not quite have sealed a move for Chelsea‘s Daniel Sturridge just yet, with the Mirror reporting the deal has stalled. Instead the Reds are eyeing PSG striker Kevin Gameiro as a back-up plan. There is excellent news for the club with the news Raheem Sterling is ready to commit his future to the club by signing a five-year-deal.
Celtic striker Gary Hooper has emerged as a shock target for Juventus. Liverpool, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham and QPR are all also interested in the 24-year-old, say The Mail. Hooper has scored 13 in 25 games this season and has been added to the shortlist of striking targets for the Serie A champions.
Manchester United‘s Chilean attacker Angelo Henriquez could be going on loan to Wigan in January. It is being reported that Roberto Martinez is trying to persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to bring the teenager in as cover for Arouna Kone when he leaves for the African Nations Cup. Henriquez is yet to feature in the first team for United, but scored his first international goal two months ago.
Manchester City forward John Guidetti is a loan target for Aston Villa, report The Telegraph. The Swedish striker is 20 and has recovered from virus in his leg which has kept him out all season. He recently signed a new contract with City, but a loan move is the best chance of regular football for the player who impressed at Feyenoord last season.
Southampton teenager Luke Shaw remains a target for Arsenal, with a report claiming a deal for the full-back is being lined up for January. Southampton will push for £10 million for the highly rated player and England youth international who has broken into the first team this season.
And finally Adel Taarabt has amazingly claimed he is willing to ignore speculation from Barcelona to stick with QPR. He said in an interview that both Anzhi and Barcelona want him, but his commitment lies with the R’s, even though he may have to depart for the African Nations Cup in January. PSG captain Diego Lugano is also interesting QPR.
