Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Manchester United and Aston Villa are the talk of the papers today.

Manchester City‘s spending spree is only just beginning, if reports are to be believed. The Mail claim that City are ready to splash out on the very best young English talent, following their signature of Jack Rodwell from Everton. On their shopping list are Scott Sinclair, who has just one year left on his Swansea contract, Birmingham goalkeeper Jack Butland, and defender Steven Caulker. It is the second day in succession Caulker has been linked with City, but even if the club meet his £15 million valuation, Spurs would surely not sell one of their best young prospects to a rival.
An intriguing article courtesy of ESPN claims former Everton loanee Royston Drenthe is wanted by Manchester City. The claims come from his agent, who says the Dutchman has offers from clubs in Turkey, Ukraine, and Italy. Drenthe is a free agent after being released by Real Madrid and falling out with David Moyes at Everton.
A striker Everton are said to be close to tying up a move for is Belgian forward Kevin Mirallas. Mirallas had only 24 hours earlier claimed Arsenal had been in touch with his club Olympiakos over a potential switch, but no bid had been made. The striker was the top scorer in Greece last season and has a release clause of just 6.4 million Euros. The Sun claim Mirallas could head to Goodison for a medical as soon as tomorrow, and could be an Everton player by the weekend.
Manchester United are expected to tie up the deal of Chilean forward Angelo Henriquez within the next 24 hours after the 18-year-old passed a medical yesterday. The move was fast tracked after rivals Manchester City expressed an interest in the player.
Meanwhile the Luka Modric saga rumbles on, with both Real Madrid and Tottenham getting equally frustrated with one another. Madrid are said to have made a £25 million ‘take it or leave it’ bid to Spurs for the Croatian, and are ready to move onto other targets. This is apparently evident by their enquiry for Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele, confirmed by the player himself, claim The Star. Whether Spurs accept a bid far below their valuation remains unlikely, and Modric may just have to start considering the prospect of remaining a Tottenham player next season.
And finally, Aston Villa are ready to give up on Jean Makoun. The midfielder was loaned to Olympiakos last season, and welcomed back under Paul Lambert, but his failure to learn English and settle at the club has led the club to consider their options. French club Rennes are keen to sign him, but only if they sell Yann M’Vila, a target for both Arsenal and Tottenham.
