Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City are all rumoured to be on the move.

All the last 24 hours football gossip you need to know in one place…

The biggest deal of the day being discussed is the possibility of Manchester City swooping for Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi.

City have denied officially that they are in the market this January, claiming they need to sell before they can buy, but this is one rumour which will not slow down.

Expect the saga to run throughout January. The question is what would his arrival mean for the future of Nigel de Jong, and even Gareth Barry and James Milner, with competition for places already congested.

De Rossi to City?

Another of the big clubs, Chelsea, have been linked with Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinean’s agent has been forced to deny such rumours.

However the future of Chelsea’s striking personnel is far from assured, and perhaps a swap deal for Fernando Torres could be done, giving him an escape route to Spain. The likelihood is that this is probably one for the summer, rather than this January.

Higuain to Chelsea?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Stoke City are preparing an audacious bid to sign Junior Hoilett from Blackburn Rovers. Winger Jermaine Pennant could also be used as a makeweight in the deal.

The young Canadian is a highly rated prospect and his contract is expiring, so a decent bid could persuade Blackburn’s owners to sell.

Hoilett to Stoke?

Another Blackburn Rovers player rumoured to be on his way out is powerhouse defender Christopher Samba. The Mirror reports that Tottenham are plotting an £8 million bid.

Samba has made no secret he wants to make a step up, and would be ideal cover for Ledley King at Spurs, but for Blackburn to let him go this month, it could be terminal for their chances of staying up.

Samba to Tottenham?

And finally, this very website is asking whether Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe will roll the dice and try his luck at a new club.

Staying at Spurs he is very much second choice, and his chances of a Euro 2012 place currently look slim thanks to emerging talents Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck. Liverpool and QPR could both offer him escape routes and a Euro 2012 lifeline, if he wants it enough.
