The big news of the day is that Manchester City seem prepared to axe defensive midfielder Nigel De Jong.
The disciplinary-challenged Dutchman has barely featured this season, having been a real lynchpin in previous seasons.
A central reason to City’s decision to release him would be his £100,000 a week wage demands, which would seemingly rule out Arsenal even though they could do with a player like him.
It difficult to see him going to another Premier League club, so expect Inter Milan, Real Madrid, or PSG to express an interest, however a move may not happen until the summer.
It is also being widely reported that ambitious Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua are still pursuing Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.
If this happened they would reunite him with Nicolas Anelka who joined the Chinese side last month.
Drogba showed against Valencia and Manchester City that he still has a lot to offer, and Chelsea should try to keep hold of him until the end of the season, although the Chinese side claim they could have a deal in place as soon as Monday.
One transfer which seems likely is Liverpool tying up Sporting Lisbon youngster Joao Carlos Teixeira.
The winger is out of contract in the summer, and would follow in the footsteps of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo by leaving sunny Portugal for northern England.
As much as Liverpool fans may not willingly admit it, they will hope the similarities do not end there.
Kenny Dalglish says the player will be one for the future, but surely he could provide competition for Stewart Downing.
Cesar Azpilicueta, there is a name we hope we won’t have to type on a daily basis.
Nevertheless, our fears could come true, if Chelsea secure a deal for the defender’s signature.
Currently the Spanish 22-year-old plays for Marseilles, and today’s papers link Chelsea with a £12 million move for the former Osasuna youngster.
Azpilicueta admits there have been no formal talks as yet, but hints that he would welcome such a move. One to watch, and possibly a big name for the future in more ways than one.
Make it stop. If we are infuriated at Manchester City‘s inability to sell Carlos Tevez, imagine how they feel. It is already turning into the transfer window’s longest running saga.
Today’s Guardian reveals the latest twist in the long-running saga is that PSG are to bid £30 million in an all-out bid to secure his services. Of course this could all just be talk in order to bluff Inter or AC Milan to up their offers.
We just hope whoever does land him, manages to get him to agree to play, for their sakes.
