Liverpool, Newcastle United, Manchester United, QPR, Manchester City, and Arsenal are all preparing to buy or sell this January…
All the last 24 hours transfer news and gossip you need to know in one place…
‘Transfer sensation’ declare The Sun this morning, with their story that Liverpool are set to accept bids of around £10 million for striker Andy Carroll.
The paper report that former club Newcastle United are extremely keen on doing business for that price, and who can blame them.
Its easy to scoff at this rumour, but to be fair, The Sun were spot on last January when they were the first to reveal Liverpool’s £35 million interest in the striker.
Now Carroll hasn’t had the best of starts, but that price was an investment, so from our perspective if Liverpool were to sell him now it would really be the wrong move.
Don’t worry Arsenal fans, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not after a permanent way out of the club, despite a cheeky ‘Get Me Out of Arsenal’ headline in the Daily Star.
No, what ‘The Ox’ actually wants is a loan move to enhance his Euro 2012 chances.
No clubs have been specifically mentioned with regards to his signature, so lets throw a few names into the hat who may be interested: Everton, West Brom, QPR, and Bolton.
Most Arsenal fans would actually prefer him to stay and play, but if Wenger isn’t going to use him then it makes more sense to let him go.
Oxlade-Chamberlain to go on loan?
The Demba Ba story rumbles on, with an agent, advisor or hanger on ‘confirming’ that Manchester United have expressed an interest.
United’s players were certainly impressed when Ba put them to the sword at St James Park earlier this month.
Newcastle United will not want to let him go, but now the secret is out about his release clause they are in a tricky position.
Perhaps it is a blessing he is at the African Nations Cup, stalling any potential transfer until the summer.
Demba Ba to Manchester United?
According to the Daily Mail, as soon as Mark Hughes walked into his new manager’s office at QPR he faxed an immediate £7 million bid to former club Blackburn Rovers for Christopher Samba.
Samba is Blackburn’s prize asset in defence, and the club really do need him if they are to have a chance of staying in the Premier League.
However if they are able to get a bidding war going and raise £10 million, with Spurs also interested, then their finances may dictate that they must accept a bid.
Manchester City‘s defence is in crisis, apparently, or if you believe Roberto Mancini, with them having to rely on the £30 million pairing of Joleon Lescott and Stefan Savic.
So clearly they need reinforcements, and apparently the man to the rescue could be Raul Albiol, who could be available from Real Madrid.
The defender is out of favour at the Spanish club, and to be fair if City are going to sign a defensive player this January, it will be a move such as this on the cheap, rather than a mega-money signing, with the Financial Fair Play rules on the horizon.
